Putting God's Word into Practice…

Revelation 17-18 ~ Stay Faithful

on August 5, 2014

Come, I will show you the judgment of the great prostitute who is seated on many waters, with whom the kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality, and with the wine of whose sexual immorality the dwellers on earth have become drunk…The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet and adorned with gold and jewels and pearls, holding in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of her sexual immorality…And I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints, the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. (1b-2, 4, 6 )

The prostitute represents this world system.  It is seductive, attractive, alluring, and to have what we desire will cost us something…there is no such thing as a free prostitute.  All of its adorning is merely external.  Once we have given ourselves over to it, we see the reality behind the beauty–impurity, confusion, destruction and death.  To compromise with “her” is costly, and yet, to stand against her is costly too.  It  comes down to whether or not we want to be faithful to the One who created us and made a way for us to escape destruction, judgment and wrath no matter the price, or if we want to commit spiritual adultery on Him with the world–buying the temporary pleasures it offers. Warning:  worldly pleasures are short-lived, and it doesn’t end well for those who pursue them at the expense of their souls.

Just like a man paying for an hour with a prostitute receives false power, pleasure and partnership; when one gives the authority of their soul to the world, there is an air of power, fulfillment and belonging, but it is counterfeit.  God is still and always will be the real authority.  His purposes are being carried out, even by those who oppose Him, and it will be that way until His words are fulfilled.

They will make war on the Lamb (Jesus), and the Lamb WILL conquer them, for he is LORD OF LORDS AND KING OF KINGS, and those with him are CALLED and CHOSEN and FAITHFUL.

Jesus and His followers will be victorious over this world system and all who align with it.  Like a jealous husband, he will exact vengeance on those who seduce people away from His eternal love and who try to destroy His called, chosen and faithful followers whose names have been “written in the book of life from the foundation  of the world.”

No matter how many kings there are, Jesus is King over all.  No matter how much pain we go through to follow Jesus, it will be worth it in the end.  Stay faithful!  True joy and fulfillment is found in knowing Him!
