Putting God's Word into Practice…

1 Peter 3:8-22 ~ A Life Worth Loving!

on October 28, 2013

How many of us want to live lives we love and enjoy?  When do we get the most joy out of life?  Usually when things are going our way or when there is no conflict in our relationships.  God has a way that we can love and enjoy our lives no matter our circumstances, relational conflict, or harmful events.  It’s counter-cultural!

LOVE!!  Love others, bless our enemies, forgive, speak only what is good and true, search for and maintain peace, worship Christ as Lord of your life!

Unfortunately, most of us would rather wallow in pain, fear, and anger.  It’s easier and makes sense.  But we will not experience the abundant, joy-filled life Jesus died to give to us!  We will not have the presence of God with us, and King David wrote in Psalm 16:11 that true fulness of joy and eternal pleasures are only found where God is!

Think back over the last few days.  Have I retaliated in a conflict with someone?  Have I insulted anyone?  Have I spoken harshly or critically of anyone?  Is there anyone I need to forgive?  Have I spoken evil against anyone for which I need to confess and ask the Lord to forgive me? How can I love and bless EACH person in my life–even difficult ones?

Doing things God’s way is generally opposite of what our culture tells us is acceptable and goes against our own human nature.  But God’s ways promise lasting joy and a life worth loving!

Finally, all of you should be of one mind.  Sympathize with each other.  Love each other as brothers and sisters.  Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude.  Don’t repay evil for evil.  Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you.  Instead, pay them back with a blessing.  That is what God has called you to do, and HE WILL BLESS YOU FOR IT.  For the Scriptures say, “If you want to ENJOY LIFE and see MANY HAPPY DAYS, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies.  Turn away from evil and do good.  Search for peace, and work to maintain it.  The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and His ears are open to their prayers.  But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil.”  Now who will want to harm you if you are eager to do good?  But even if you suffer for doing what is right, GOD WILL REWARD YOU for it.  So don’t worry or be afraid of their threats.  Instead, you MUST worship Christ as Lord of your life.  (1 Peter 3:8-15a)
