Putting God's Word into Practice…

Titus 2:11-15 ~ Grace, Jesus, and Us

on February 15, 2013

For the GRACE OF GOD has appeared, bringing SALVATION for ALL people, TRAINING us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, WAITING for our blessed HOPE, the appearing of the glory of OUR GREAT GOD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST, who GAVE HIMSELF for us to REDEEM us from ALL lawlessness and to PURIFY for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for GOOD WORKS. (Vs. 11-14)

The Grace of God. God’s grace brings salvation.  It is only by His grace that we have faith to believe the truth about the good news of Jesus.  But God’s grace doesn’t end at salvation–it’s His grace that changes our lives!  His grace trains us to recognize and run from ungodliness and worldly passions.  His grace teaches us how to live self-controlled and holy lives.  His grace gives us hope that we will see Jesus, and that hope is the driving force to live holy and pure lives.

Our Great God and Savior, Jesus Christ! We have been kidnapped and molested by this world!  Our rescue involved a ransom.  Our lives could only be bought out of that condition by the blood of Jesus Christ.  That is why He gave Himself.  He did it to save, rescue and redeem us.  The cost was high, but He thought us worthy!  He purified us and we belong to Him!

Us.   If our salvation doesn’t cause us to desire godliness, it says that we don’t value the sacrifice of Jesus.  Understanding God’s grace and treasuring our salvation and rescue, leads us to want to do good works for the Lord.  In 1 Peter 4:10 and Ephesians 3:2 the Bible says that we have been saved to be “stewards of His grace.”  We get to be God’s serving tools that dish out His lavish grace to others through offering them the good news of salvation through faith in Jesus, training and teaching (disciplining) others to live for Him, and encouraging other by pointing them to the hope of seeing Jesus at the end of this life!

Spend some time thanking God today for your salvation, for your transformation and for giving your life a great purpose.  Look for ways to share His extravagant grace with others today!
