Putting God's Word into Practice…

Philippians 4:2-23 ~ I Know the Secret

on December 25, 2012

Paul challenged believers in some pretty difficult areas as he wrapped up his letter–areas regarding joy, anxiety, contentment, unity–things we all struggle with daily.  But he shared with us the secret to overcoming these things in verse 13.

I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME!

  • We can have unity with those working for the gospel through Christ who strengthens us. (2-3)
  • We can rejoice always through Christ who strengthens us. (4)
  • We can cast away anxiety and receive surpassing peace through Christ who strengthens us. (6-7)
  • We can take our minds captive to dwell on purity and truth through Christ who strengthens us. (8-9)
  • We can be content in every situation through Christ who strengthens us. (11)
  • We can face hunger and need through Christ who strengthens us. (12)
  • We can face plenty and abundance through Christ who strengthens us. (12) {You may be thinking, “I could face abundance and plenty just fine!”  However, abundance and plenty carry the great danger of disowning God (Proverbs 30:8b-9) and puffing us up with pride.  It is only through the strength of Christ that we can receive abundance and plenty with humility.}
  • We can encourage others through Christ who strengthens us. (19)
  • We can be used by God in adverse circumstances to change people around us for God’s glory through Christ who strengthens us. (22)

How can Christ give us so much strength?  Because He is near (5).  He is peace (7,9). He is rich in glory (19).

Christ is near!  God with us!  Emmanuel!  He is all we need!  He is our strength!  He is our Savior!

Merry Christmas!
